02 Offers Unlock for the Apple IPhone
02 have officially announced that they will unlock every generation IPhone for a one of fee believed to be around £15. This is a good thing for a number of reasons, there are currently ways to get round unlocking your IPhone but they aren’t exactly legal and once you unlock your phone, you cannot make any updates to it so it will not run as good as a phone still linked with the 02 system.
However this is no longer a problem for the IPhone user restricted by the 02 network, as long as you have completed your contract (if on a contract) or you pay the remainder of your bill you can contact 02 customer services and they will tell you how to unlock it, this is good for the customer as the continual growth in fantastic sim only deals for all smart phones means customers can take full advantage of the sim only contracts posted by all the major phone companies, hopefully the other phone companies also adopt this approach when it comes to their IPhone contract users asking to have their phones unlocked.
Previously 02 warned IPhone users that if they had their phones unlocked this would damage the phone and invalidate the warranty associated with it but after this recent move we must just assume that this statement was merely a scare tactic as now 02 are indorsing the unlocking of these phones.
The only downside to unlocking your phone is you cannot unlock it half way through a contract which seems a bit annoying as there are many people out there who would like to run their current contract and purchase an international sim only contract deal, to try and get the best price for the 2 services.
