IPad 2 Launched

ipad 2 As you know the apple IPad 2 launched yesterday (25th March 2011), normally these sort of gadget launched don’t cause much of a stir but seems as though people have been queuing for this new launch since Wednesday lends me to believe this particular gadget is somewhat different.

When the original IPad was realised it sold over 9 million units in 9 months, taking a sizable chunk of the netbook market and starting infiltrate even the lap top market, many companies reacted to this and fired out similar machines using the rival android software such devices as the Samsung galaxy S tab.

Although the IPad was only realised in the uk last night it has been available in America for a fortnight so we sort of knew what to expect from this next generation machine, the first thing you notice is the IPad 2 is it is about a third thinner than the previous generation and around 60Grams lighter, although this does not sound a lot it is definitely a much easier unit to handle now.

Internally the IPad 2 benefits from a faster dual core processor, the first generation IPad was not slow, but if you sit the pair side by side you can see a distinct speed difference, although it is not miles faster than before. Apply claim that processing power has been doubled and a 9x increase in games processing power, although it will be some time before apps are available that are anywhere near testing the gaming power of the IPad.

Battery life is about the same as the 1st generation IPad around 10 hours depending on use, even though the new processor is more powerful it is also more efficient.

This new model benefits from a low resolution front mounted camera and a high resolution rear camera this allows for application like Facetime and general camera use, there is also a new inbuilt application called photobooth this allows you to edit and mess around with pictures with a variety of tools and backgrounds.

In short this new ipad2 is not a huge upgrade from the 1st generation with the only real difference being the introduction of the 2 cameras, we feel that there will not be many application the ipad1 will not be able to run in the future, the only one we can think of is apples own imovie but to be honest by the time this app really becomes a must have we will probably be talking about the arrival of the ipad3.

This new upgrade is more for the individual who cannot go without the latest apple gadget, for anyone with the current ipad I would think long and hard whether the extra features on this new one will be of a huge help to you, and for new customers to the tablet market then apple is the place to be and probably will be for some time.
